Rathnew tops in real thriller

- DIVISION 2

DIVISION 2 leaders Rathnew stayed on track for the title when they came out on the right side of an incredible 11-goal thriller against Glencormac United.

Josh O’Callaghan (three), Luke O’Callaghan and James Delahunty got on the scoresheet for Glencormac.

Arklow Celtic moved into second place thanks to a 3-1 win over Greystones United.

John Kearon, Mark Doyle and Edwin Walker got the goals for the winners, with Anthony Fermoyle replying for United.

Roundwood travelled to Avonmore FC and came after with the points after a 3-2 victory, with Keane Murphy (two) and Brian Gallagher scoring for the visitors and Wesley O’Toole and Callum Pursey replying for the hosts.

Eoghan Mullhollan­d bagged a hat-trick for Carnew AFC as they chalked up a 4-0 win away to Newtown United, with James Behan getting their other goal.

Nathan Carr and Luke Walker got on the scoresheet for Arklow United but they lost 7-2 to Park Celtic, while St. Patrick’s and Shamrock Celtic shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw (see focus match). ASHFORD Rovers turned on the style against high-flying Arklow Celtic, running out 5-1 winners thanks to a double from Paul Duffy and goals from Peter Farrell, Aidan O’Callaghan and Chris Sillery.

Jason Rowlands hit the back of the net for Celtic, who missed the chance to draw level with Rathnew at the top of the table.

Robert Mullery was on target for Arklow United as they drew 1-1 with Dearg Celtic, with John Kinsella grabbing the Cetlic goal.
