Arklow choir takes part in charity CD recording

-

REVIVAL Gospel Choir, Arklow recently had the privilege of providing the backing vocals for the recording of a charity CD with the renowned singer/ songwriter Ami Grady. The CD, entitled, ‘Broken Wing’ was recorded in the Unitarian Church on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin in December last for the wonderful charity called Children in Crossfire, run by the inspirational Mr Richard Moore.

Richard was only 10 years old when he was shot and blinded by a rubber bullet from a British soldier during the troubles in the North. For what would limit so many others, Richard embraced his many challenges and set up the charity, Children in Crossfire, which works with some of the most vulnerable children in Tanzania and Ethiopia, providing access to clean water, education and health. Many years after being blinded, Richard met up with the soldier who shot him and due to his extraordinary strength and compassion; the two men became good friends.

Ami Grady is a singer/songwriter from Dublin who has opened shows for Christy Moore, Brian Kennedy, Paddy Casey and Mundy while also having several of her songs covered by various Irish artists. The song, ‘Broken Wing’ was written specifically for Richard and his charity to raise awareness of Children In Crossfire and to raise much needed funds.

The Revival Gospel Choir were first contacted through a mutual acquaintance and Ami came down to Arklow to sing her song and ended up being blown away by the enthusiasm and musicianship of the choir.

Arrangements were made for the choir to travel to Dublin, at their own expense, to record the CD with Ami and support this fund-raising effort.

The choir, which was formed over 12 years ago, were thrilled to be part of this adventure and delighted to be able to do some charity work.

A fabulous day was had by everyone in the choir who thoroughly enjoyed the experience of voice and video recording in the Unitarian Church while having the opportunity of a lifetime.

The CD is available for download on www.amigrady.com or check out the recording of the song on YouTube – see ‘Children in Crossfire - Broken Wing’.
