€7.4 million for Wicklow’s roads
DETAILS of the 2017 investment in Wicklow roads have been published with over €7.4 million allocated.
Approximately €3.7 million is to be invested in restoration improvement works and €952 on restoration maintenance while the discretionary grant is €1.5 million.
Safety improvement works will come to a total of €310,000 and €100,000 will be spent on speed limits and €38,000 on a training grant.
The sum of €204,000 has been allocated for bridge rehabilitation works at a number of locations including White Bridge, Avoca, Rathdrum Bridge, Fortgranite Bridge, Bay Bridge, Shillelagh, Cherrymount Bridge, Avoca, Rosnastraw Bridge, Roddenagh Bridge, Aughrim and Beech Road Bridge.
Safety improvement works will be carried out to the tune of €200,000 at Calary Upper, Roundwood as well as at the junction of Church Road and Church Lane, Greystones (€30,000); the junction of Main Street and Castlepark, Arklow (€30,000); Adelaide Road and Florence Road, Bray (€25,000) and Avoca (€25,000).
Welcoming the allocation, Minister Simon Harris said ‘I am pleased to welcome the 2017 grant allocations for regional and local roads. It is important that Wicklow County Council is able to plan ahead and decide their annual work programmes. I meet with Wicklow residents on a regular basis on this issue and it is clear to me that there are areas in the county that are badly in need of infrastructure investment.’
