Wicklow U-13s suffer narrow loss in Barnhall

-

ON a fine dry day, Wicklow U-13 Black Squad headed to MU Barnhall RFC in Leixlip, County Kildare to play in a Leinster Metro League match.

Wicklow had a tough opening match earlier in the month and the players, under the guidance of Eoghan Richardson and Owen ‘Sullo’ O Sullivan, had trained very hard since then.

Wicklow U-13 Black squad made more than a match of the contest.

After going 5-0 down early in the first half, Wicklow came back with a magnificent team try scored by Sean Higgins to bring the score to 5-5 which it remained until half time.

Barnhall again took the lead early in the second half but Wicklow fought back with another try by Sean Higgins converted by Outhalf, Ben Kelly to lead 12-10.

Barnhall then found the narrowest of gaps to score a try and lead 15-12. Try as they could, Wicklow fought hard but were just short of a decisive 3rd try. Well done to both teams on a highly competitive match and to Barnhall for laying on a great reception for players, coaches and parents afterwards.

Man of the Match was Hooker, Noah Hanahoe, who had a fine game together with two try Sean Higgins. This was by far this U-13s Black Squad’s stand out performance of the season and the players can be very proud of how they played.

Next Sunday, Wicklow U-13 Black travel to Malahide RFC to play the first round of the Metropolitan Cup.
