Sensational ’Stones put Thomond to the sword

-

solo effort from second half substitute, eighteen year old Matt O’Brien.

The U20’s player making his first appearance in the All Ireland League initially showed his potential shortly after coming on with a break through the middle running in support of Con Callen only for the final pass to be called back by the referee as forward.

He followed this with his own move through the Thomond 22 jinking past several defenders to score his debut try that was converted by Marmion to leave the final score at 43-6.

Focus now turns to next week’s crucial top of the table clash with City of Armagh RFC that will go a long way to defining the final promotion and play off places at the end of this long season.

Lying nine points adrift at the start of the day the bonus point collected along with defeat of Armagh by Wanderers means the gap is now just four points with Wanderers a further eight points behind.

But whatever happens next week, with eight rounds remaining, there is still a lot of rugby to be played and many points to be fought for.

Home Coach Kevin Lewis will ensure his young team stays focused for the challenges ahead and will be encouraged by both recent performances of the team and the emergence of young talent to bolster his squad.
