Dismay as the decision goes against Amber

-

AFTER four weeks intensive training, four of Arklow’s girl boxers weighed in on Saturday for the girls Michael Andrews Competition in the National Stadium.

First in action in her semi-final Amber Byrne won well against her game and tough opponent Noeleen McInenery from St John Bosco.

Amber had her final on Sunday against Rachael Lawlor of Portlaoise. Amber used some good two and three punch combinations stepping it up in each round, giving her opponent a standing count in Round 2.

When the decision was announced every fair minded person in the stadium including the referee were amazed when Amber’s hand was not raised. A decision that should have no place in Amateur boxing.

Amber will be out for vengeance when the Leinster girls Championships take place in Arklow in April.

Katie Toomey did well in her semi-final on Saturday against Katey Lannigan, New Ross. This was an even contest Katie coming out on top. Katie’s final is next weekend. Also boxing in her final next weekend is Tegan Farrell. Leanne Doyle received a walkover in her final.

In the meantime a team of twenty boxers and officials travelled to Liverpool at the weekend to box against Kirkdale BC Anfield. This was a social trip as well as boxing. Some of the boxers parents travelled to support them. Their new kit was on display.

The club are grateful to Chris Farrell for the printing on their new tracksuits. A full report on the Liverpool trip next week along with the results of the girls finals.
