Schools ‘A’ final should be class

- KIERON KENNY

they may have had from them and they won’t wan’t to be second best again.

Coláiste Bhride Carnew have a proud tradition in this competition and are never easily beaten when they get to a final. With a fine mix of players from a lot of south clubs and plenty of north Wexford involvement they have a fine squad and plenty of potential.

They have lifted this title on eight occasions in the past. Castletown, Kilanerin and Kilrush-Askamore all supply players with captain Dom McDonald a strong full-back a member of Kilanerin along with Sean Barden and Sean Forde, a forward who carries plenty of threat with his height a major factor. Askamore supply the O’Neills while the Brooks brothers Robbie and Darragh are from Castletown, Robbie has strong aerial ability in the middle of the park and will have a good battle with Cal Kelly here.

Tinahely have a big representation on the starting team with goalkeeper Alan Lillis, James Tyrrell and Curtis Keating strong defenders. James Hedderman will play around the middle with Rory Stokes pulling the strings at centre forward and the dangerous Eoin Darcy prowling for scores inside. He put the holders Avondale to the sword in the semi-final with three goals and like Kelleher at the other end he can find the net given any sniff of a chance.

Coolboy’s Dean Grandy is a rangy player with good ball carrying skills and has plenty of experience. Aughrim are represented by Ian Clancy at wing back and he is dangerous getting forward and supplying the inside line.

The Arklow team are hot favourites to finally get their hands on the title and are well stacked to do so. Carnew have shown in wins over St Kevins, Dunlavin and Avondale that they are a fine team who can get plenty of scores but keeping the attacking threats posed from Gaelcoláiste Na Mara in so many areas could prove a step too far.
