Nothing like the longer brighter days to rejuvenate us

-

ALL the better if it is dry with a little heat, not like we have had to endure the past number of days as we impatiently wish to enjoy the outdoors.

For most that comes from the pleasure of getting their garden into shape and the more committed gardeners to prepare the soil to plant their vegetables and also grow the summer fruit. This whole process for most is behind time with the unfavourable weather conditions.

But no matter how we might be feeling because of what seems a long hibernation over the winter, the garden can be a great panacea to cure all our ills and certainly lift our spirits. At least the difficult challenges of day to day life don’t seem as bad when you are out in the fresh air and soaking up hopefully some warmth.

Gardening always has been a great hobby for a great many people, and a great support to the budget of families through the supply of fresh produce, vegetables and fruit which is a big saving when the cost of growing them and buying them is compared.

Of course there is the time it takes. But for quite a few that can be a source of great enjoyment, as well as tending to their garden in general, looking after the lawns and growing shrubs and flowers.

Quite a lot in recent years have turned to gardening or to be more specific to growing their own produce out of necessity and from a very practical perspective to help cut the household food bill, as well as provide essential and healthy produce.

They have been drawn to gardening and indeed encouraged by organisations and bodies who offered allotments to those without space of their own, and offered advice and also ran classes.

Ironically not a great deal of land is needed to start growing your own vegetables and fruit. Indeed it is possible to carry it out in apartments and flats without land attached, using the like of pots and other utensils.

A big part of gardening is the sheer pleasure that one can derive from it. From just being out in the air for a start to the tiring but relaxing and appetite enhancing activity of digging and sowing plants and seeds to the delight then of seeing what you put in the ground growing and bearing fruit. To taste your own fresh and distinctly tasting vegetables and potatoes or strawberries or whatever fruit is very rewarding and a source of great pride.

Somehow there is no time like the spring --seeing all nature returning to life. The hand you play in it from either growing the produce your family need to planting life enriching flowers and shrubs to decorating your garden is a real thrill.

If you would like to start gardening and growing your own produce, there is plenty of professional help out there. Not least from local garden centres who stock all the plants and seeds that you need and are only too keen to advise you.
