THE BIG FIGHT NIGHT Wicklow boxers taking on a strong team from Wexford

WICKLOW boxers take on a very strong Wexford team in The Grand Hotel, Wicklow next Saturday night.

The boxing starts in the afternoon with underage test matches from 3pm to 6pm showcasing the young guns from the clubs in Wicklow and some visiting clubs.

In the first inter-county boxing between Wexford and Wicklow in three years, Wicklow will face a very strong Wexford side which includes Irish Elite champion Dean Walsh of St. Ibar’s who is matched with Arklows Welter Fergal Redmond in a top of the bill contest.

Also topping the bill Reese Kelly of Wicklow will be in action at middleweig­ht against Kieron Burke, Rosslare.

In another middleweig­ht bout Richie McGarry, Blessingto­n will face Shane Dooley, Donard and from Enniskerry Aiden Long will be in with Jake Cox, Enniscorth­y Boxing Academy.

At bantamweig­ht Jason Smith of Blessingto­n will swap punches with Conor Jordan, St Aidan’s. Jake McMahon of Liberty boxes Martin Byrne, St Aidan’s.

Aaron Tuke, Arklow, boxes Willie Bolger, St Aidan’s, Killian Clarke, Rathnew, will renew rivalry with Ryan Cullen, Ballagh. This is the boxers third meeting, winning one each.

Michael Moorehouse from Enniskerry will be in action against St Ibar’s hot shot Joe Whelan, Oisin Tracey, Liberty, will be in action against Cian Byrne, Gorey and Josh Whitmore from Arklow will renew rivalry against Marcus Sheridan, Gorey. Sheridan won in their last meeting.

Daniel Keogh, Liberty, is in action against Paraic Doyle from Bunclody and Kyle Kearney, Wicklow, will box William Kenny, Bunclody. Arklow’s Daniel Fox will give a year to Aaron Kirwan, Ballagh while Adam Synnott will renew rivalry against Keelan Roche of St Aidan’s. Roche won their last meeting. Cole Byrne from Enniskerry will box Jake Buckley, Rosslare and Jake Brady from Wicklow is in action against Fionn O’Leary, St Pat’s/St Anthony’s.

Michael Cash from Rathnew boxes James Murray, St Aidan’s.

Callum Clarke from Rathnew was matched but his opponent is injured and Wexford are trying to find a replacemen­t. The winning county will be presented with the prestigous Paddy O’Leary Memorial Shield Admission is 10 euros adults, 5 euros under 16s, boxing start at 6.45.

Meanwhile, Arklow’s four Leinster champions are preparing for the upcoming national finals at the National Stadium which start on 18th April. Philip Feokrvtova, Andriyi Kulachenko, Damien Abiloga and Daniel Feokrytova are buzzing at the present and can’t wait to to get into action in Irish championsh­ips.
