KILTEGAN TRIUMPH IN FÉILE QUALIFIERS
Quality event produces some cracking contests
KILTEGAN were crowned as Wicklow’s Feile na nGael Division 3 representatives in a rain-soaked GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill on Friday.
The west Wicklow women saw off a very determined challenge from their neighbours, DonardGlen, in a very close encounter that saw each team match score for score, particularly in the first half.
At half-time, with the scoreline reading Donard-Glen 1-01 to Kiltegan’s 1-0, it was still anybody’s guess as to who would represent Wicklow in Division 3 of the national Feile na nGael competition in June.
The second-half proved just as exciting, with neither team put off by the downpour of rain.
Kiltegan added a goal to their tally, but Donard-Glen had an equal answer very quickly at the other end.
The players on both teams dug deep and a smashing goal by Kiltegan brought the competition to a close: Kiltegan 3-0, Donard-The Glen 2-01. Donard-The Glen will represent the county in Division 4 of the national competition in June.
The final was a fitting conclusion to a great day’s camogie as eight teams battled it out against each other and the elements: Avondale, Carnew Emmets, Donard-Glen, Annacurra/Arklow, Kiltegan, Bray Emmets, Knockananna, and Glenealy.
The semi-finals saw Knockananna pitted against Donard-the Glen and Kiltegan against Avondale – again, great achievements for the clubs involved.
Wicklow will also have a third team in the June Féile na nGael competition, with Carnew Emmets asked to act as a host venue.
The south Wicklow side will host a team from Fermanagh and compete in Division 7, Group A.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the Minor team who take on Kerry next Saturday in the All-Ireland final of the Strike for Glory competition.
