Wicklow lose out to Tullow in Seconds Cup Opening try was the killer

- SECONDS CUP

well deserved score from Stuart Donohoe was the reward after some sterling work by the forwards. The conversion was missed but the score was 9–8 to Tullow at half-time.

Injuries had a major effect on the Wicklow side as they lost Timmy Donovan, Paddy Cullen and the power of Gary Duffy in the centre. Wicklow had to reshuffle the deck and they did well to go in front after an excellent Ruairi Barron penalty to lead 9–11.

Tullow responded with a penalty of their own to go back in front at 12–11. The killer blow came with 20 minutes remaining when Tullow went over for their first try. The conversion was missed but the men from Black Gates led 17–11.

Wicklow attacked for the remainder of the game but Tullow just soaked up everything that they threw at them. There were several opportunities to score but outstanding Tullow defence forced the turn over time and time again. Try as they might Wicklow just could not make the break through to score the crucial try.

Tullow scored a break away try wit the last play of the game which put a slightly skewed look on the score board at 22–11 to the Carlow men. Wicklow had given it everything and battled bravely but unfortunately they went down fighting against an excellent Tullow side that will be hard beaten in the final next weekend against Naas.
