Sun shine for Country Fair
THE Ashford Country Fair returned for its fifth year in the beautiful grounds of the Bel Air Hotel where participants enjoyed a day of sun shine, food and entertainment.
New this year was a falconry display where people could be photographed holding a bird of prey.
The day featured two gun dog demonstrations – one working with Labrador and the other with spaniels. Families also brought along their pets to enter them into the popular dog show where they catered for all shapes, sizes and breeds.
The highly entertaining duck herder provided three separate demonstrations so everyone got a chance to watch the dog skilfully herd the ducks as they went back into their pen.
‘Our most popular event was the sheep sheering. Once the sheep were done the wool was then brought to a separate tent where it was woven and knitted. It gave everyone the idea of how the process is done,’ said committee member Bernadette Glover.
The huge range of stalls were all local businesses and products including jewellery, crafts, pottery, soaps, books, clothes, country produce and wood turning.
The children were well catered for with a fun corner that had a bouncy castle, painting pottery, popcorn and candy floss. For adults and children alike there was a barbecue that also served a vegetarian option.
