Glenealy put Éire Óg away Laffan’s men in good nick

- LIAM O’LOUGHLIN

at Glenealy GAA Club all through.

Garry Hughes opened the scoring from a free after three minutes but Glenealy were slow enough to register further scores.

Points from Jamie Byrne, Jack Kavanagh, and Thomas Doyle had Glenealy leading by 0-4 to nil after 20 minutes.

Any chances Eire Og may have had were snuffed out by a very alert and dominant Glenealy fullback line.

Full-forward Enan Glynn was very prominent for the last ten minutes of the first half, adding three points in a row from play.

The game’s only goal came just before the break when substitute John O’Neill netted.

This brought the Glenealy tally to 1-7 with the visitors still to raise a flag.

The second half was all about the scoring exploits of Garry Hughes, both from frees and play. With the exception of a last minute point from a penalty by Danny Staunton, Hughes chalked up all of the Glenealy second half tally. E

Éire Óg had a little more success as the second half wore on. Andy Walsh, Sean Byrne (2), Mick Walsh and Peter Keane tacked on points in the final ten minutes to leave Glenealy comfortable winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-5.

Former Wexford stalwarts Garry Laffan with Glenealy and Eamon Scallon with Greystones side were patrolling the line for this encounter.

There will be bigger challenges ahead for them both.
