Avonmore will face Greystones at the Carlisle

AS the season comes to an end the WDSL would like to inform players, readers, clubs and coaches of the following important dates .

Following on from the radio Interview in December, the WDSL WDFL and Bray Wanderers are working closely together for the betterment of football in Wicklow.

So one of the promises was a cup final for our under-16 teams. This is their last year in WDSL and what a way to hand them over to the Junior League than a final in Carlisle Grounds.

A big thank you to Denis O’Connor from Bray Wanderers, Michael Conlon WDFL and Peter Porter WDSL for making this happen.

The under-11 Academy started Saturday, May 3, with over 200 players turning up, this will continue through the summer, details sent to clubs.

This is one of the Chairperso­n’s new strategies to improve the intercount­y teams and have each team playing and training in the same structured way. Feedback on the day from players, parents and coaches were positive.

The under-12s will finish off their season with a trip to Wexford on June 3 for the Tracy Lawlor Tournament, more on that closer to date

The under-13 League Developmen­t squad played SDFL, Dundalk and Cavan Monaghan recently and would like to thank Wicklow rovers and Wicklow Town for use of their grounds.

This was a good run out for the squad. Dundalk won the tournament on the day and were presented the cup by Marin O`Hanlon from the SFAI.

The under-13 Interleagu­e squad will finish off their season with a trip to Belfast on May 20 for a full day of football in the Friendship Cup. Thanks again to Jack Kelly, Darren O’Brien, and Karl Bradshaw for all the work they done this year.

The under-14 Kennedy Cup squad are in full swing with training, friendlies and workshops leading on to the Kennedy Cup in June. Some match reports throughout the paper.

WDSL League awards day is on Sunday, May 25 in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow. All under-8/9/10/11 Players to receive medals on the day. Under-12-16 will receive their league medals, shields and cups as well.

The AGM will be on Thursday, June 29, at Shamrock Park, Rathnew, at 8pm.

Important vote will be on the changing of the league format from Winter League (Aug-Jun) to Calendar Football (Feb to Nov) this if passed will allow for a short season from September to November, then a break and start of Calendar (Summer) Football in February 2018.

This is one of the conditions of the FAI PDP that all leagues to play calendar football.

The League/Club Fundraiser ‘The KUBE’ is being held in Parkview Hotel, Saturday, November 18.

This is a joint fundraiser for all clubs and the league and special guests.

This is compulsory for all clubs to enter one entrant. This fundraisin­g will help clubs themselves but also will go to the league developmen­t fund which hopefully will lead to a home for football in Wicklow.
