GAA ACADEMY

The Juvenile GAA Academy is now running every Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the GAA field. Boys and girls from aged four upwards are all welcome to attend. Any inquires to Micheál, who can be contacted at 087 2453511.

BIODIVERSI­TY EVENT

Tinahely celebrates Biodiversi­ty Week on May 27 at 10.30-12.30 in Tomnafinno­ge Woods. Meet at carpark. Explore, learn and draw and have a bit of fun by listening to the River Derry Bubbles tell you about the biodiversi­ty of the river and woods. Small cost €5 to cover artist’s materials. KNOCKANANN­A CAR BOOT

Knockanann­a Tidy Towns will host the next Carboot Sale in the hall on Saturday, May 27. The hall will open at 8 a.m. so that people can setup their stall. A pitch costs €10 and come early if you need a table as they are limited. If you do not want to sell your own wares then please donate to the Tidy towns Bric o brac stall, and donations can be left with Sheila Whelan, Kathleen Monaghan or Esther Fox.

While you are in the village, have a look at our book recycling at the Telephone box, which is becoming a bit of a national talking point. In June, we will hold the annual coffee morning on Mrs Whelan’s lawn on Friday, June 16. In Tidy Towns there is no such thing as retirement – Mrs Whelan, who was one of the founding members of Knockanann­a Tidy Towns still helps by hosting this event. The June Carboot sale will be held on Saturday, June 24.

PARISH BARBECUE

The annual Kilaveney Parish barbecue takes place on Sunday, May 28, from 12.30 p.m. in the grounds of the Presbytery. Come and enjoy steaks, burgers, salads, desserts, tea or coffee and a compliment­ary drink. Adults €15. Children €5.

This promises to be a fun social event and a chance to meet family, friends and neighbours for a chat over a leisurely lunch. Sincere thanks to all the volunteers who help make this annual event happen.

Please return your summer draw card by May 27 or bring it to the barbecue. The draw will be held during the barbecue. This annual summer draw is a vital fundraiser for our parish with some great prizes to be won. Thank you for your generous support. Everyone is welcome to the barbecue.

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Come celebrate with us on Sunday, June 4, for a special Mass to mark the feast of Pentecost in St Kevin’s Church, Kilaveney at 11 a.m. Pentecost Sunday is a day of Special Prayer to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the church.

On this special day we will also celebrate the presence in our parish of people of different nations and acknowledg­e our cultural diversity.

KILCOMMON BARBECUE

The Tinahely and Carnew Union of Parishes barbecue and Funday is on Sunday, June 11, at the Rectory, Kilcommon. Food will be served from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Steak and Salads with Dessert costs €20; Children’s Burger Meal €5. Lots of fun for all the family.

Shillelagh Area Community Games will be holding a fundraisin­g Cake Sale on Friday, June 2, at Shillelagh Courthouse from 2: 30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. Please support by joining us on the day or by bringing your favourite buns and cake to sell. Tinahely CFR are hosting their annual fundraisin­g coffee morning on Saturday, June 10, at 10 a.m. Please come along and support this wonderful community service and even try your hand at CPR on the Market Square. Everyone welcome.

WALKING CLUB

On Sunday, May 21, the walk will be at Fraughan Rock, Glenmalure (Grade B+, 14km, four hours) meeting in Tinahely at 10 a.m. or Glenmalure Hotel car park at 10.45. On Sunday, May 28, the walk will be at Tonelagee-Scarr (Grade A, 15km, four hours) meeting in Tinahely at 10 a.m. Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food and drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

If you are living with Depression/Anxiety or any other mental health issue, you may benefit from attending the Tinahely mental health support group. Meetings will take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30 p.m. upstairs in the library building in Tinahely. The cost is €5 per session including tea or coffee. To those that walk their pets on leash, a big thank you. To those that don’t please be aware you are endangerin­g the future of the walks for the wider community. The Railway Walk and extension have a strict rule that dogs must be on leash and no dogs are permitted on any of the looped walks.
