-

Dubliner Greg Callaghan remains on top of the leader board after what organisers described as a ‘fantastic weekend’, when the Emerald Enduro visited the Garden County.

The Coillte Emerald Enduro took to Carrick Mountain, Wicklow last Sunday, May 28, for the third time and for the fourth round of the Enduro World Series.

While official figures haven’t yet been calculated, organisers believe that bigger numbers of spectators than last year heading up the mountain to watch the elite mountain bikers in action.

The race saw over 350 of the world’s most elite riders hit the hills for 1550m of climbing, 50km of pedalling and over six hours of biking across tough and technical trails.

After a testing day, Irish rider Greg Callaghan finished in 10th place but still maintained his top position in the global rankings.

In the Mens U21 category, Dublin native (and cousin to Greg) Killian Callaghan took a fourth place finish, ranking him number one globally.

Cork girl, Leah Maunsell also saw success in Wicklow today, taking 2nd place in the U21 Women’s race today.

Returning for the third year to Carrick Mountain, the Emerald Enduro has already become an EWS classic.

As famous for its fans as its trails, the Irish round has become known for its electric atmosphere and today was no different as thousands of spectators lined the tracks for today’s race.

2017 is the fifth year of the Enduro World Series with eight rounds taking the riders to New Zealand, Tasmania, Madeira, Ireland, France, USA, Canada and the final round in Italy.
