Young tennis club members take win

-

Children from the Glebe Primary School were crowned the winners in the Class 3 Division Leinster Primary School’s League last week.

The pupils, who defeated Brittas Bay NS in the final, were among 12 members of Wicklow Tennis Club who took part in the league final at Castleknock Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday, May 25.

A spokesperson for the club said that ‘it was a great achievement to have two local schools competing in a Leinster final’ and that the club is ‘very proud of all the children’ from both teams.

The previous week, the boys’ team from Ashford Primary School were proud to be presented with the perpetual cup after they were declared the winners of the Wicklow Tennis Club Primary School League.

Jean Hodgins, from the league’s sponsor Hopkins Toymaster, visited Wicklow Tennis Club last Friday to present the prizes to all the talented schoolchildren who took part. While congratulations were sent to the Ashford team, commiserations were sent to the team from Wicklow Montessori Primary School who they faced in the final. Thanks were extended to John Sexton, Niamh Cassidy and Barbara Kelly who helped run the event.

There is a lot of activity in the club at the moment in particular at junior level and details of all the events are on the junior page of www.wicklowtennisclub.com.

The club has sent its thanks to all the members of the Blue Dolphins Special Olympic Club who participated in the recent Enjoy Tennis Programme. This was most enjoyable event for everyone and thanks have been extended to coach John Brady and all the club members who came along as hitting partners over the five weeks.

The club has also sent its thanks to Clare O’Sullivan and the junior committee who organised a junior/parent tournament on Sunday last – thankfully the rain stayed away and everyone enjoyed themselves.
