TINAHELY 1-13 HOLLYWOOD 0-7

TINAHELY picked up a crucial brace of Arklow Bay Hotel League points after a great team performance in Hollywood on Sunday morning last.

The home side were without the service’s of Tony Hannon, Thomas Burke and Stephen Kearney but will seriously wonder how they amazingly registered zero from 25 shots on goal during the game with almost 20 wides and a number of balls dropped short into the goalie Niall Byrne hands.

Tinahely were also short of a couple of regulars, but at least they brought their scoring boots with them.

Alan Nolan opened the visitor’s account in the fourth minute after good build up play by Alan Nolan.

The home side hit two bad wides before Alan Nolan doubled Tinahely’s lead with a sweet right foot.

Ciaran Tyrell won the resultant kick out and put Mikey Healy through on goal, where goalie Niall Byrne saved and cleared the ball up the field and John Blake saw his shot on goal put out for a 50 by the Hollywood defence.

Rory Stokes struck a mighty shot and split the posts from the 50. Hollywood had an equal amount of possession of the ball as Tinahely but could not register a score as another brace of shocking wides followed.

Mikey Healy had another goalbound shot cleared by William Dillion off the goal-line in the twelfth minute. Keith Peppard pulled another effort the wrong side of the posts for the home side.

Goalie Niall Byrne’s kick-outs were finding his half forward line everytime at ease.

Alan Nolan who was in fine form for Tinahely, hit a beauty of a point from 35 metres out near the sideline as Tinahely went 0-04 to nil up.

Niall Clarke and Rob Kelly had chances to register the home side’s first score, but to no avail as a wide and a ball dropped short in the goalie’s hands was the outcome.

Anthony Darcy pointed a free after Alan Nolan was fouled going through.

Moments later Tinahely won a line ball, the ball was moved 13m forward by the Baltinglass official for some dissent and Jason Cush punished the home side with another point.

Joe Glennon and Ciaran Tyrell played a one-two up the field but yet again Hollywood’s shooting let them down as another wide was registered to the groans of the home side’s faithful.

Hollywood were matching Tinahely everywhere but not on the scoreboard, where it counts.

Tinahely then added two wides. Keith Peppard had another goalbound shot brilliantly saved by Niall Byrne.

Then in the 28th minute another Hollywood effort at a point dropped short into the goalkeeper hands and he cleared upfield to wing back, who Oisin Furlong took two solos and shot from 38m out, his shot ssomehow dropped under the crossbar for Tinahely to put daylight between the sides.

Hollywood amazingly hit another two bad wides with some poor shot selection as the half time whistle sounded with the score unbelievably reading Hollywood 0-00 to 1-06 for Tinahely.

On the restart, the home side added a further two wides and two shocking turn-overs.

Tinahely’s Alan Nolan found centre half forward Rory Stokes with a sublime pass and Stokes should have put the game to bed, but somehow his shot cannoned back off the crossbar when it was easier to goal.

It was like the roadgoals were jinxed as after 13 shots, no score yet was registered. Hollywood had a good spell of possession but could not get on the scoreboard as another two chances went abegging.

Finally in the 38th minute, Ciaran Tyrell opened the homeside’s account with a pointed free after good work by Joe Glennon.

Keith Traynor added another point for Hollywood. Tony Darcy landed another great point after yet again Alan Nolan, who was in flying form for Tinahely, provided the assist.

Alan Nolan himself landed a monster of a point before Curtis Keating tagged on another point for the visitors.

Hollywood introduced PJ O’Keefe for the final quarter and he broke through the heart of the Tinahely defence and split the posts from an acute angle for their third white flag.

Yet again Hollywood found a bit of form but could not put it on the scoreboard. Alan Nolan chipped in with another point.

Joe Glennon pointed and a brace of points from the boot of Kevin Glennon reduced the defecit somewhat.

Tony Darcy fired over Tinahely’s 11th point in the 52nd minute after good work by Michael Byrne.

Ciaran Tyrell added the home side’s final point from another free. Tony Darcy and Anthony Phelan each pointed to close out the game for a comprehensive win for this Tinahely side.

The Tinahely management will be happy with an all round good team performance and pair of league points.

Hollywood will seriously have to improve their scoring to shot ratio if they want a quick return to Senior ranks.
