STUDENTS at Colaiste Craibh Abhann in Kilcoole received their awards last week for everything they achieved throughout the year.

Teacher Ruairi Farrell said that the awards were handed out for both academic achievement and extra-curricular activities.

The juniors received their awards in the morning, while in the afternoon, awards were presented to the senior cycle students.

The award for ‘Rogha na Bliana’ was handed to both a male and female student of the year in each group. The year head picks those students, in consultation with their teachers.

Mr Farrell said that on both occasions there were 300 to 350 students involved in each of the sittings.

He said that the qualities across the board in the Rabha na Bliana winners were those students who embody the mission of the statement, which highlights both academic excellence and mutual respect.

‘It was a super day, and great to see the students rewarded,’ said Mr Farrell.

He said that there was big hype surrounding the identities of the students of the year coming up to the awards.

Teachers gave away clues in the weeks prior to the announcement, with everyone trying to guess who it could be. They did have a shortlist of five to choose from, to narrow things down a little.

Mr Farrell said that there was a super atmosphere on the day, which was the culmination of a year of hard work by everyone.

He said that the students are now knuckling down to make their final preparations for exams.

The sixth years paid particular tribute to Mr Farrell, fashioning an effigy of their year-head as they marked the end of the academic year.
