It was a beautiful occasion for the students, their families and the school staff with prayer and beautiful singing from the sixth year music students (Caoimhe Cronin, Annie Loftus, Kate Lally, Emily Vickers-Bolger and Eimear Kelly) and the Liturgical Choir. A reception was held in Fatima Hall following the mass with music from the School Chamber Orchestra and then the girls headed on out for the night. Thanks to all involved in the graduation ceremony.

HEAD GIRL/DEPUTY HEAD

Congratulations to Sally Crowley Clare and Áine Cahill, who have been announced as our incoming Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl for 2017/18. We wish them all the very best in their new roles.

SYRIAN APPEAL

The third year students were delighted to present Dermot Costello, the Wicklow representative of Nasc with €700 for their Syrian appeal. They raised the money from their ‘copper coin collection’ earlier in the year.

Nasc is the Irish word for ‘link’. Nasc works to link migrants and ethnic minorities to their rights through protecting human rights, promoting integration and campaigning for change. Their mission is to enable migrants and ethnic minorities to access justice and human rights and work to achieve a just, inclusive and equal society.

Nasc works for an inclusive society based on the principles of human rights, social justice and equality. Well done to all the third years and Ms Kristiansen for organising the Syrian Appeal.

TY GRADUATION

Transition Year came to an end with Graduation Night on Monday evening. It has been an ‘action packed’ busy year for all students. The girls have been excellent; a very enthusiastic and co-operative group to work with. Many thanks to their hardworking co-ordinator Ms Goff, who organised a very successful and structured programme for the students. We wish the girls every success for the future as they advance into fifth Year.

3RD YEAR TRIP TO THE ZOO

Third years will be taking a well deserved break from their hard work and study to take a trip to Dublin Zoo on Tuesday the 30th. We hope they have a lovely day.

PEER PROJECT

This year DCW was one of two schools in Ireland invited to take part in a research study by UCD called the PEER research study. PEER stands for participation, experiences, and empowerment for Roma and Traveller Children.

It is a research study conducted by the School of Education, UCD and is funded by the European Council. Most of the traveller students from DCW took part and spoke at a European conference in UCD in October. They went on to help form the Diversity Committee which is working towards the Yellow Flag Award for inclusion, which we hope will be awarded to us next year.

Members of the PEER study were acknowledged for their commitment at prize giving and are as follows: Nikita Moorehouse, Mary O’Brien, Ellen O’Brien, Ellen O’Connor, Mary Teresa O’Brien, Kathleen Connors, Margaret O’Connor, Margaret O’Brien, Anne Marie O’Connor and Ellen O’Connor. Well done, girls.

TY DAY OUT

On Monday the 29th the Transition Year students will be heading off for their annual day out to Brittas Bay. We wish them sunshine and lots of fun.

TRIP TO GLENDALOUGH

The TY Gaisce 14 DCW students accompanied by Ms Mason and Ms Cremin headed off to Glendalough on Wednesday the 24th to complete their challenge for their Gaisce Awards. The students had to do a 26km hike in Glendalough over the two-day period with an overnight stay in the Glendalough Hostel.

Gaisce the President’s Award is a self-development programme that encourages students to find their passion, get active and make a difference in their community.

The girls really enjoyed the challenge and experience, and they were lucky with the fabulous weather over the two days. Well done to all the girls.
