DOMINICAN COLLEGE’S AWARDS DAY

THE staff of the Dominican College Wicklow honoured the impressive young ladies of the school during a special awards ceremony held recently.

Students were presented with a broad range of awards, reflecting both their academic and sporting achievemen­ts over the past year,

Caoimhe Cronin was the worthy recipient of the Student of the Year Award and was roundly praised for her hard work during her time at the school.

The awards for the highest mock exam results went to Emma Jane Leggett (Leaving Cert) and Emma Coffey (Junior Cert) while the award for the Best Junior Cert Results went to Caoimhe O’Neill.

Talented ladies Caoimhe Cronin and Annie Loftus were the joint winners of the Aoife King Music Prize.

The Ethos Awards were presented to first year student Leah Murphy and fifth year student Emma Hanlon.

Aine Cahill was revealed as the Deputy Head Girl for 20172018, while Sally Crowley Clare will be Head Girl.

Senior academic prizes were presented to sixth year students Fíona Natoff (art), Erin O’Dwyer (Home Economics), Sarah Duffy (Music), Zoe Byrne (Accounting), Isobel Donohue (Economics), Emma Jane Leggett (LCVP), Rachel Philips (Biology), Zoe Byrne (Chemistry), Maya McDevitt (Physics), Lauren McKeon (Maths), Emma Jane Leggett (Irish), Eimear Geraghty (English), Aoibheann Dowd (French), Maya McDevitt (German), Caragh Quinn (Spanish), Tara Farrell (History) and Isobel Donohoe (Geography).

Junior academic prizes were presented to the following third year students: Laura Burke (Art), Roisín Ring (Home Economics), Aoife Maguire (Music), Áine M Kavanagh (Business Studies), Emma Coffey (Religious Education), Katherine France (CSPE), Aoife Maguire (Science), Kate Keaney (Maths), Ella O’Neill (Irish), Laura Burke (English), Eadaoin McLoughlin (French), Hannah Owens (German), Sara Tamani (Spanish), Caoimhe Mc Grath (History) and Katie Madden (Geography).

A number of GAA stars were also honoured, including senior winner Niamh O’Brien, Sarah Evans and Lucy Dunne ( junior) and Holly McSorely (first year). Senior basketball Player of the Year was Rebeccah Heeran, while Abi Smith took the first year honours, Gemma Power the second year winner and Roisin Ring was the third year choice.

Hockey Players of the Year were Kasey Doyle (senior), Kate Costello ( junior), Sadhbh Dolan (first year) and Orla Fitzgerald (minor) while the cross country awards went to Emma O’Brien (senior) and Ellen Savage ( junior).

Athletics awards were presented to Amy O’Brien (senior), Saoirse O’Reilly (intermedia­te), Naoise O’Reilly ( junior) and Carlota Cuevas (first year).

Special Recognitio­n Awards were introduced this year to acknowledg­e students who have consistent­ly made a significan­t contributi­on to the school and who have frequently given their time to supporting school initiative­s. The awards were presented to Aoibhe Drennan, Rhian Drennan, Suzie Leonard, Emma Maguire and Aoife Maguire.

Full attendance awards were also handed out. Winners this year were Maya McDevitt and Sarah Duffy from sixth year; Sally Crowley Clare, Sorcha Ffrench and Blaithín Campbell Rawson from fifth year; Jessica Ryan, Mia Ryan and Eadaoin McLoughlin from third year; Amelia Finnerty and Julia Simko from second year; and Ellen Savage, Morgan Elliott, Sorcha Cronin, Catherine Moyseyeva, Ellen Madden and Isabella Downey from first year.

Student of the class awards were also presented. The first year winners were Abi Smith (Emerald), Ella Healy (Opal) and Isabella Downey (Sapphire); second year winners were Ora Emerald: Orla Fitzgerald (Emerald), Megan Byrne (Opal), and Enya Donohue (Sapphire); third year winners were Hannah Gormley (Emerald), Lucy Dunne (Opal) and Maya Flynn (Sapphire); fifth year winners were Aoibhe Drennan (Ruby), Beth Laverty (Pearl) and Emma Hanlon (Diamond); and the sixth year winners were Aoibheann Dowd (Ruby), Erin O’Dwyer (Pearl) and Isobel Donohoe (Diamond).

Academic Excellence Awards, acknowledg­ing the highest results in the Christmas exams 2016, were also presented to the following students: first year – Catherine Moyseyeva (Emerald), Ella Healy (Opal) and Morgan Elliott (Sapphire); second year – Emma Kristianse­n (Emerald), Caragh Dempsey (Opal) and Amelia Finnerty (Sapphire); third year – Emma Coffey (Emerald), Roisin Ring (Opal) and Emma Smith (Sapphire); fifth year – Larah Gorman (Ruby), Aisling Murphy (Pearl) and Sophie Cadwell (Diamond); sixth year – Rachel Phillips (Ruby), Zoe Byrne (Pearl) and Emma Jane Leggett (Diamond).
