ADAM’S APPLE PROJECT IMPRESSES EPA JUDGES

-

AN ANIMATED film made by Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew, student Adam Stedmond caught the attention of the judges in the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) competition on the theme of ‘ The Story of your Stuff.’

Adam, who is from Gorey, didn’t win the competition outright, but certainly impressed the judges and all who have seen the short film since.

It tells the life story of an apple, from its initial arrival in a house, to the creation of another apple tree, all done through claymation, and clever use of sets, lighting, and camera angles.

The film was specially commended by the team of judges. ‘ The Story of an Apple’ and the other entries can be viewed on the EPA YouTube channel.

The Story of Your Stuff competition encouraged students to conduct their research through the irelandsenvironment web resource.

Campaign ambassador, photographer, and music video director Christian Tierney provided video-making tips to students on the campaign website. He also inspired potential entrants with his own video. Students were invited to choose an everyday object and use a visual medium to illustrate its life cycle – where it came from, how it was used in its lifetime and more importantly, where it was going to end up.

The EPA’s Helen Bruen said they were bowled over by the level of research, skill, time and effort that went into each project.
