Big win for Donard!
County Wicklow side claim Kildare league crown
DONARD-THE GLEN travelled to Celbridge to take on Eire Óg Corra Choill in the Division 2 Cup final and returned with a superb victory under their belts.
Donard-The Glen had topped the group in the league stage of the competition had only suffer one loss to Eire Óg in their first game were to go and reverse the result on this occasion.
Lillie May Cullen Dunne opened the scoring for the Wicklow girls and Kelly O’Neill and Clair Whelan added points.
Eire Óg settled and fired over a few points to take the lead. Sheila Whelan struck the ball to the net and left the minimum between the sides at the break.
There was outstanding defending from Katie Daynes, Emer Kelly and Amy Barrett, Samantha Mills, Emer Miley and Mary Whelan in the Donard-The Glen goal who made a string of great saves and made life difficult for the Kildare girls. Up front, Kelly O’Neill was inspiring with a personal total of 2-7, Sheila Whelan, Katie Ann O’Neill and Lillie May Cullen Dunne were in top form for the County Wicklow side.
Emer Miley collected the trophy for the Donard-The Glen team and thanked all the players, selectors and all involved with the team.
