AVONDALE

Our Junior hurlers and footballers were in action last week with our hurlers recording a fine win at home to Barndarrig on a scoreline of 2-17 to 0-8pts while the footballers came unstuck against Avoca losing by two points on a scoreline of 3-09 to 1-13.

This evening the junior hurlers are away to Kilmac/Enniskerry while the Junior footballers welcome Carnew to the complex tomorrow eve.

Our Senior footballers play St Pat’s in Wicklow town on Friday evening.

Our under-11 hurlers had a great win v St Pat’s last Wednesday in Ballinakill and tonight the footballers travelled over the Wicklow mountains to take on Blessington.

Last Saturday night the club launched our new club lotto in Jacobs Well and it was an outstanding success. A lot of hard work went into setting up the lotto so a massive thank you to the lotto committee of Bronwyn Walshe, Sharon Doyle, Helen Penn, Catherine Behan, Claudia Byrne, Christina Doyle, Sean Hayes, Seamas O’Shaughnessy, Kevin Sheehan, Brenda Kinsella and Seamas Doyle.

Thanks also to Eugene Dunne and Liam Byrne for making our lotto drum and frames for our lotto signs.

Also a big thank you to all our ticket sellers and to all who purchased tickets.

The first numbers were drawn by club presidents Sean Field and Paddy Kennedy with Jimmy O’Shaughnessy and Noel Jacob also doing the honours. The numbers drawn were 6, 8, 10 and 19. Jackpot wasn’t won but we had four match three winners.

The next draw will take place in the Corner House on Tuesday, June 13, when the jackpot will be €600.

A big well done to Pauline, Lisa, Marie, Christina and Paula who ran the womans mini-marathon on Monday in aid of the Martin family and as a fundraiser for new jerseys for our under-7 and under-9 hurlers and footballers.

KNOCKANANNA

Lotto results no winner or match 3s. Numbers 5, 6, 23, and 25. Lucky dips Aoibhe Lancaster Julia Morrissey Paul Canna and Catherine Murphy. Sellers prize: Kathleen Byrne. Next week’s jackpot: €3,500.

Well done to Knockananna GAA on a good win away to Shillelagh, 0-14 to 0-08.

They played some very impressive football at times and only for some bad shooting the margin would have been much bigger, we did find it hard to combat Shillelagh kick outs particularly as many were kicked to their corner-forward who was playing the sweeper role.

In the second half the same movement wasn’t there from Knockananna and we also seemed to take a liking to the goal post as they hit it five times, surely a record in itself.

A brilliant save from John Farrell near the end kept the margin to six points. Shillelagh added a point at the death leaving the us with five points to spare at the final whistle.

With a couple of games in hand on most of our opponents The two points leaves us in a good position in the league table.

Our next game is Sunday week at 12 against Newcastle at home
