Sheep sale, May 30 Trade much improved today in Tullow with prices reported up to a tops of €140 per head for lambs.
The 46kg to 52kg today selling from €128 up to €140 with the majority from €130 to €134 and a major improvement here with demand very noticeable from factory and butcher agents.
The lighter lambs 40kg upwards selling today from €110 up to €126 with the majority pushing from €115 to €120 with some 43kg and 44kg into the early €120 mark.
Store lambs numbers starting to swell here in this section with the lightest lambs on offer today being 32kg making €82 with the majority of those 35kg to 38kg selling from €84 up to €94. One pen of 39kg making €100.
Butcher factory hoggets selling today from €115 to €124 with some ewe hoggets pushing up to a tops of €138 today with cast ewes selling from €8 to €15 with the kg for the feeding types and the heavier ewes sold up to €128 per head.
The breeding section a couple of breeding type of ewes out 2 & 3 yr olds selling up to €150 with ewes with lambs at foot twins at foot selling up to €230 per unit while hoggets with lambs up to €160 per unit.
Overall a very lively trade in Tullow today. Great to be able to report an improvement in trade by this outstanding amount in the last week of May as we face into the bank holiday weekend. Hopefully the improvement of trade with help to dampen the spirits of the factories as they try to pull the prices. Cattle sale, May 26 Very large sale again in Tullow with trade remaining strong for the beef and forward type cattle while the store cattle also continue to hold a very steady trade.
Beef and forward bullocks FR types selling from €780 with the kg upwards to €1040 today for the younger CH type bullocks 720kg CH bullocks making €1760 FR bullocks 660kg making €1320.
Store bullocks a very lively trade here a lot of grass custom still around the ring selling from €1.90 per kg for the FR types with the A and HE selling from €2.10 to €2.30 with the kg with the good continental bullocks pushing up to €2.50 to €2.60 with some exceptional lots 400kg pushing up to €3 a kg.
Beef and forward heifers lively trade selling from €800 to €1020 for those good LM and CH type with the AA and HE selling from €700 with the kg.
Store heifers very lively demand selling from €2.10 per kg for the plainer HE and AA types upwards to €2.75 for well presented LM and CH type heifers while the majority sold from €2.30 to €2.60.
Very demanding trade for the dry cows for those Fr feeding types selling from €150 up to €300 with the kg with the continentals pushing up to €450 with the kg while heavier continental cows pushing up to €2 and €2.05 per kg.
Overall a full clearance today in Tullow with a very lively trade for all classes.
