Great weeks for Inbhear Mór club
IT HAS been a great few weeks for the members of Inbhear Mór Athletics Club as they enjoyed some super runs at a variety of events recently.
The June bank holiday weekend was packed with events both in County Wicklow and as far away as Manchester. A number of members took part in the Gorey park run where member Trish Sinnott was second woman home in a super time of 22:50.
Later that day, the group headed to Glendalough for the Glen to Glen hald marathon. Aoife Tunney was joint first in the O40 category, Kathleen was second in the O50 group and Gillian Priest smashed her half marathon record by five minutes on a course with a 1107 ft climb.
There were also great runs clocked up by club membes Gillian 1:55 (PB), Aoife 2:00, Kathleen 2:11, Mandy 2:15 and Slawek 1:44.
Eugene Doherty ran a super 1:34 to win his category. In the full Glen to Glen marathon Mary Hickey was first woman O60, Michelle was first O50 and Jean put in a great run only a few months after competing the Seville Marathon. Times were as follows: Mary 4:43, Jean 5:25 and Michelle 5:25. In Gort, Co Galway, the club was represented at the Lough Coutra triathlon where there were some wonderful performances recorded.
In awful weather conditions, Carmel and Claire completed their first triathlon and clocked up times of 2:03 and 2:01 respectively.
Lisa and Tina also both had a strong race with times of 1:46 and 1@48 respectively while Ailish came third in her category with a time of 1:42.
Dinny, Sam and Trish Kavanagh took on the Lough Coutra Gauntlet - a 1900m swim, 96k cycle and a 21k swim. They all finished way ahead of their target times as follows: Sam 7:32, Trish 7:32, Dinny 7:14.
Closer to home Duggy and Deirdre McCarthy took part in the Strawberry half marathon and five mile in Enniscorthy. Duggy ran an impressive 1:37 at the half marathon and Deirdre completed the 5 mile in 1:01. The club also had two age category course records broken by Inbhear Móre athletes - Trish Synnott at the Gorey park run and Mark Hickey at the Lap of the Gap marathon. Danny Green also completed the Manchester 19k in a time of 43 minutes. Well done to all the members on their super achievements.
