Male Voice Choir ‘impressive at every level’ on trip to Mayo
WICKLOW MALE Voice Choir is celebrating a very successful trip to the west, having won the James Feeney Trophy at this year’s Mayo International Choral Festival.
Led by musical director Anthony Norton and accompanied by pianist Izumi Kimura, the choir won the Male Voices competition on Saturday, May 27, and were ‘impressive at every level’, according to the judging panel of Joe McKee and Des Earley.
Shortly after their winning performance, the choir took part in a concert at the Mayo Peace Park Garden of Remembrance, which honours Mayo men who died in both World Wars and the Vietnam War.
Choir chairman Larry Wolahan placed a wreath to honour those fallen Irish men and a minute’s silence was followed by the choir singing Amhrán na bhFiann.
The following day, the choir had the privilege of singing at the 11 a.m. Mass in the St Muredach’s Cathedral in Ballina, Co. Mayo, before returning to Wicklow.
