A DAY OF TOP CLASS FUN AND GAMES!

-

THIS year’s Allianz Cumann na mBunscol sports day took place in Charlesland Sport and Recreation Park, Greystones on Wednesday, June 7. There was a fantastic turnout and schools represented were Gaelscoil na Clocha Liatha, Gaelscoil Ui Cheadaigh, Holy Rosary Wicklow, Kilcoole, Kilmacanogue, Newtown, Rathdrum Boys, Curtlestown, St. Cronan’s, St. Fergal’s, St. Kevin’s, St. Laurence’s, Roundwood, Enniskerry, St. Pat’s Wicklow, St. Peter’s, Ashford, Our Lady’s Rathdrum, St. Patrick’s Bray, Bray School Project, Scoil Chualann, St. Brigid’s Greystones and Delgany.

The day began with a parade around the track with each school displaying their banner and wearing their schools colours with pride. Scoil Chualann led everyone in singing Amhrán na bhFiann.

Cathaoirleach, Jim O’Riordan, did a fine job of MC on the day and kept every event ticking along nicely. Boys and girls took part in individual races, team relays, tug of war, ball throw, long puck, long kick and long jump.

Each boy and girl represented their school impeccably and it was a fantastic achievement for each athlete to be representing their school.

Thanks to the race starters and finishers, those who helped line the children up, field event co-ordinators, those on the results table and all who helped out in anyway to make the day the success it was.

This day could not take place without huge input from volunteering teachers, parents, past pupils, and Teresa Kinnane and the staff in Charlesland. To all of those Allianz Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantáin are indebted. Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine!

Most importantly well done to each and every child who took part in the events. The level of sportsmanship displayed on the day was truly remarkable. Children could be seen shaking hands at the end of events, congratulating each other on the podium and helping each other out. This lovely atmosphere of sportsmanship was a credit to them and their schools.
