Great turnout for annual horse show
COMPETITORS and supporters alike turned out in force to support The Wicklow Branch of The Irish Draught Horse Breeders Association who held their annual show in Spruce Lodge, Redcross by kind permission of The Keogh Family.
There was strong Wicklow representation with local branch member and her horses winning no less than seven of the 23 classes. It was no surprise when her horse ‘King Flagmount’ was a clear winner of Irish Draught working hunter qualifier. They will go forward to defend their title as winners of last year’s inaugural Irish Horse Gateway working hunter class at the national show which will be held in Punchestown later in the season.
Other local performances of note were put in by Jane Bradbury who won The Traditional Irish Horse Championship on the four year old gelding ‘Bloomfield Salvabitur’ who is owned by longstanding show sponsor Daphne Tierney. George Webster and Mary Chapman had a good day with their filly foal ‘Hio Chocalette Buttons’ by Andy Waldron’s Irish Draught Stallion ‘Crosstown Pride’ coming second in the Irish Draught foal class and her dam also placing second in the Irish Draught Broodmare class. Ten year old Moneystown girl Skyla Nally jumped around a challenging course to place third on her pony ‘Mayfield Boy’ in the Connemara Working Hunter class, while 14 year old Ashford girl Jane Mooney came second in the ridden Connemara class on her pony ‘Corroter Oscar’. These classes were mainly contested by adults and Skyla and Jane were willed on from the side line by their very proud and supportive mothers Linda Mc Guirk and Amanda Mooney.
