IRRITABLE Bowel Syndrome and digestive disorders are becoming more prevalent. IBS is thought to affect up to 20 per cent of the Irish population, yet it’s suggested that only 5% of those that suffer have been diagnosed.

IBS is a collection of symptoms that vary from person to person. Symptoms can include stomach cramps, stomach-ache, discomfort, flatulence, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, and nausea. These symptoms can affect the ability to get on with normal everyday life.

Solutions can include diet and lifestyle changes. Identifying and avoiding all trigger foods for a period of time, and supplements to support the digestive system. Probiotics, digestive enzymes, Aloe Vera, A.Vogel Tormentil, and peppermint oil are some of the supplements that can help.

The trigger and cause of IBS differs for everyone, this makes it difficult to find a solution. Diet, busy lifestyles, stress, anxiety, eating too fast, eating on the go, and eating when stressed are all contributing factors. Many people admit that when stressed their symptoms are worse. Stress can include trying to get to work on time, the business of work, work life balance, and financial pressure.

Silicol gel is a remedy that you could try. It can help to soothe an irritated and inflamed digestive system. Relieving symptoms like nausea, stomach-aches, discomfort, diarrhoea, flatulence, reflux and heartburn which are some common symptoms of IBS. I often recommend this remedy to people who need something that can calm and soothe their digestive system, it can work quite quickly too. Once your digestive system has calmed down you can add in other remedies as required which are mentioned above.

Silicol gel is an oral gel containing silicic acid which is extremely soothing. It works by creating a protective lining in the stomach and intestine. The gel acts as a magnet physically binding with toxins, irritants and pathogens. This reduces their ability to cause inflammation, and makes them harmless to pass through the digestive tract. There are no known side effects but make sure to tell the assistant at the Health Store if you have a medical condition or if you’re on any medication.

Exercise can help with constipation and overall digestion. Reduce stress, this will help too. Don’t give up. Talk to your doctor, Nutritional Therapist, or call into your local health store to find solutions.

And enjoy your life again.
