RATHNEW
We had a very busy week in the club. Junior B league result: Rathnew 6-10, Avoca 4-02 - Our Junior B team had a convincing win against Avoca in Merrymeeting.
This was a good overall team performance with some fantastic defending on display including two magic point blank saves from John sayer in the home goal.
In total eight players got thei names on the score sheet with Jem hunter and Nigel Darragh contributing 3-6 between them.
Both Dean Breen and James Kavanagh got through a mountain of work in the forward line and the Byrne brothers, Gavin (0-1) and Robert, must have ran a marathon between them such was their work rate.
Wing backs John Healy (0-2) and Eric Doyle (0-1) both registered fine points on the night.
Our full-back line of Alan Clarke, Jem Manley and Patrick O’Connor played well for the hour and kept the point account against us to just two points.
The other three goals were netted by Dale Franey form a penalty and two impact subs Danny and Tom Quinn. Others to shine were Mick Nolan and lee Kavanagh. Well done all!
Rathnew under-14 girls v St Pats at Dunbur - Rathnew 12–6 to St Pats 7-6 - Played on a blustery night. The short drive in from Rathnew proved to be fruitful for the Village against St Pats.
The game started with Rathnew racing to and early lead. Kara Doyle, Jess, and Faye getting early goals. Faye, Leah, Anna and Sorcha were getting plenty of ball into the full forward line completed with Katie and Kara Anderson.
The full-back line, led by Lynsey, Alex and Sarah, repelled many Pat’s attacks.
Ella in Goal made a few good saves. The half backs led by Shannon, Aine and Clodagh were winning lots of ball.
Pats introduced a number of stronger subs during the first half and battled back and a few goals and points left not much in it at half time. Kara, Faye, Jess and Leah shared all the scores in the first half.
Faye, Anna and Leah seemed to cover all the Dunbur pitch in the first half. Pats had a team of subs on the side-line and the Rathnew management were concerned that after the effort put in the first half would they be able to keep the effort up?
Rathnew, facing up the hill and into the wind in the second half for all the good play, were only leading 6-5 to 2-4.
The second half started with Kara Doyle grabbing another goal. Pats increased the pressure on Rathnew for 10-15 minutes of that half. It looked like that the half time lead would not be enough, for a time Rathnew were at sixes and sevens and couldn’t get the ball up the pitch. A few switches and Faye, Anna, Leah and Jess started winning ball around the middle third and carried ball up the pitch and got it into the lethal Kara Doyle. Jess, Kara, Leah and Kiva finishing off all the second half scores.
Subs Kiva, Ria and Vicky played a huge part in the win. Katie in the goal probably pulled off save of the year a rasper that she tipped over the crossbar when the match was in the melting pot.
Sorcha played on with a badly brused finger winning ball around the half forward line linking play to the full forwards.
We must mention the older girls who led the team on especially the fantastic Faye (who must have ran a marathon tonight), Leah, Lynsey and Jess who is showing the management what she can do.
The under-12s of Alex, Clodagh and Aine in the backline. Kara Doyle with seven goals and three points, well it says it all. Outstanding performances by everyone on the team and we need to mention Kara A, Anna, Shannon, Sarah aswell.
Scorers: Faye 1-1, Jess 2-0, Kiva 1-0, Leah 1-2, Kara 7-3.
Team on the night: 1. Ella Byrne, 2. Alex ‘The Rock’ Mitchell, 3. Lynsey Sayer, 4. Sarah Haughton, 5. Aine Hill, 6. Shannon Goulding,
7. Clodagh Quinn, 8. Faye Larkin, 9. Anna Dignam, 10. Sorcha Higgins, 11. Leah Murphy,
12. Kara Anderson, 13. Jess Moxley, 14. Kara Doyle, 15. Katie Gregory (goal second half), 16. Kiva Doyle, 17. Ria Gregory, 18. Vicky Moxley.

Last week our under-11s were away to Fergal Og’s in Ballywaltrim with their biggest turn out to date with 15 players tuning up on a very wet evening, the home team started on the attack but some fine defending and good goal keeping kept them at bay and it wasn’t long before Enniskerry took control and by half time we had a commanding lead of 5-00 to Fergal’s 1-1.
The second half was one way traffic and the home team didn’t register any score and we ran out comfortable winners on a score line of 8-03 to Fergal Og’s 1-01. It was our second win in a row and third overall. It was a fantastic team performance! Well done to all players and coach Mick.
