MASS FOR FR JACK LYNCH

There was great sadness and fond memories shared in Kilmacanogue last week when we heard word that Fr Jack Lynch had sadly passed away.

Fr Lynch passed away peacefully on June 4 at Nazareth House Nursing Home in the loving care of the sisters and medical staff. He will be sadly missed by his brothers Vincent and Tony, sisters in law Mary Jean and Noreen, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, his carer and companion Nuala, neighbours,

friends and his fellow colleagues in the Priesthood. His Funeral Mass took place in St Luke the Evangelist Church in Kilmore West arriving followed by burial in Balgriffin Cemetery.

Of course Fr Lynch was an extremely popular man in our parish and a regular visitor for the Kilmacanogue GAA deceased members mass where he loved to meet old friends and share some memories. So to remember Fr Lynch, a Mass will take place this Friday (16th) at 10 a.m. in our church which will be celebrated by Fr Ben Mulligan. It would be lovely if as many as possible could come along on the day.

CFR TRAINING FOR 6TH CLASS

Well done to our sixth class students in Kilmacanogue National School, who achieved a CPR Achievement Certificate from Team Kilmac CFR last Friday. The group would like to say a big thanks to the Students, Teachers, staff, and school principal Geraldine Kelly for helping to promote the Chain of Survival in our community with the CFR Group.

This was the second year that sixth class have received this vital training before they leave the school for secondary school and it is brilliant that they have this knowledge also to take with them.

MUSIC IN CALARY

The next concert in our 2017 series is on Sunday, June 25, when the Delmaine String Quartet together with Michael James Ford, Gary Jermyn and Susannah De Wrixon will present ‘The Waterloo Concert’ with music, song, poetry and prose reflecting the great battle. It will incorporate works by Shostakovich, Beethoven and Schubert alongside pieces composed by the Duke’s own father, Garret Wellesley, who was the first professor of music at Trinity College.

As this concert is being held to raise much needed funds to support Sister Mary Killeen’s work for street children in the slums of Nairobi, there is the option of a supper in the church room before the concert starts. The supper will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the supper and concert are €40 while those for the concert on its own are €18 and €15 for concessions. To book tickets, please ring John at 01 2818146 or email derekneilson@ eircom.net.

PRINCIPAL’S RETIREMENT

We all know of the great service Geraldine Kelly has given Kilmacanogue National School both as a teacher and then Principal. Well Geraldine has reached retirement age and will step down as Principal during the school holidays in August.

To mark the occasion, the School parents’ association would like to invite all past parents and pupils to a reception which will take place in three weeks’ time in Kilmacanogue National School on Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome so please put the date in your Diary.
