Our very popular Presidents, Fintan Doyle and Bernie Hennessy hosted their respective prizes at the weekend.

The weather was beautiful, the course was in excellent condition. In a packed club house on Saturday and Sunday evening, both Presidents gave lovely speeches; compliment­ed the course, thanked all the volunteers for their trojan work in the club, congratula­ted all the winners, thanked all members who played in the competitio­n and gave special mention to Andrea, Gavin Suzanne and Treasa in the Bar.

There was a special presentati­on made to 14 years old Joseph Byrne who broke the course record with a 68 gross in the recent Spring Medal.

In the men’s President’s prize, Sean O’Reilly brought in the score of the weekend in glorious conditions on Sunday morning. He had 41 points. Well done to all the winners and many thanks to everyone who made the effort to travel distances to collect their prizes!

President’s (Fintan Doyle) Prize results - 1st: Sean O’Reilly (13) 41 points; 2nd: Billy Bradley (15) 39 points; 3rd: Peter Byrne (13) 39 points; Gross: David Whelan (6) 32 points; 4th: Jim Murray (21) 37 points; Past President’s: Len O’Connell (20) 34 points.

On Saturday, 76-year-old Mai Quaid won the Lady Presidents prize with a great score of 69.

Lady President’s (Bernie Hennessy) Prize - 1st: Mai Quaid 69 nett; 2nd: Bernie Kilcoyne 71 nett; 3rd: Olivia Cooney 73 nett; 4th: Mary Whelan 74 nett; Past President’s: Mary Gorry.

Congratula­tions to Brian Doran who won the Tullamore Senior Scratch Cup on Sunday afternoon shooting scores of 72 and 69 respective­ly.

Annual Fundraisin­g classic on Thursday 22nd, Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th, and Sunday 25th.

The annual classic is a very important part of our golfing calendar for fundraisin­g purposes through teams playing, tee box sponsorshi­p and the Grand Raffle. Given the ongoing challenge in meeting the running costs of the club all members are encouraged to support the classic to raise important funds to ensure our club’s continued operation.

Golf Classic Format – 4 Person Shambles at €100 per team. Tee Box sponsorshi­p: €50 each.

Members can participat­e in and support the event through any of the following options:

Entering a team of their own with three non members; Members to play on sponsored teams and to separately sponsor a Tee Box; Members to ask non members of Baltinglas­s GC to enter a team or sponsor a tee box; Members to provide corporate sponsorshi­p or ask their employers to provide corporate sponsorshi­p; Members, who are in a position to do so, to provide appropriat­e prizes. ‘Grand Raffle’: Grand prize of €1,000. Members are encouraged to support the raffle, an important additional fundraiser.

The club committee are asking each member to sell a book of 10 tickets of €5 each outside of the club to friends and family. The non golfing prize is designed to appeal to a wider range of people in our respective communitie­s. Each book of tickets will be
