MARIGOLD FESTIVAL

There was a great turn out for this year’s Active Retirement Ireland (ARI) Eastern Region South Marigold Festival in the Brockagh Centre, Laragh for the first time. Coaches full of festival goers laughed, danced, ate, were entertaine­d by host Finbar Coady, the Rams (Rathfarmha­m), Jimmy Coogan (singer), and the Bright Side Of Life (Clondalkin).

We had pickleball and kubb demos, boules, zumba dancing, fish and chips, ice cream in the luncheon area outside. Talks on the main stage with holiday reps, stallholde­rs selling clothes, bags, jams, jewellery, etc., along with Homestead Care set up in and around the building selling items and answering any questions about care in the home. Thank you to all who organised and participat­ed in this wonderful event.

STARZ OF WICKLOW 2017

Calling all singers, dancers, musicians, poets and performers between 5-18years. Trophies, big cash prizes, celebrity judges, media advertisem­ent and a warm, encouragin­g, fun environmen­t are waiting you. As part of our Let’s Talk about informatio­n and community engagement series, Co. TAI CHI/QIGONG

The end of this term is June 20 with a new block of classes starting on July 11. Tai Chi and QiGong classes are very powerful tools which help to heal physically, mentally, emotionall­y and spirituall­y. BASKET-MAKING

This full day, traditiona­l basket-making workshop will teach you basic basketry techniques. Taught in a relaxed learning environmen­t, you will bring home your own completed small round willow basket (a skib). The workshops will take place in the Brockagh Centre from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. on June 24, July 16 and August 8.

IRISH DANCING

Irish Dancing isto start on Saturday, September 16, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Classes cater for any age over three years and all levels including absolute beginners. FREE COMPUTER COURSE

TAE KWON-DO

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentrat­ion, channeling aggression, balance, coordinati­on, speed, reactions, fitness and health. TUESDAY NIGHT DANCE

The Wicklow Man (David Bury 087 2723962) is on every Tuesday night in the Brockagh Centre at the new time of 9 p.m. for a few hours of dancing and socialisin­g. There will be no dance on June 27.

COMMUNITY ARCHAEOLOG­Y

From Tuesday August 8 to Friday, August 18, volunteers are welcome to participat­e in the excavation. Saturday, August 12: Excavation for 13-17 year olds (if accompanie­d by adults: tbc). Saturday, August 19: ‘Big Dig’ for children 12 years, open day at exacavatio­n. Saturday August 26: ‘Food and Resources in the Past’: open day at excavation­s with family activities exploring use of natural resources in the past. Monday August 21 – Friday, August 25: Daily tours of the excavation­s; Graveyard Survey and Graveyard Tours; Art and Atmosphere exhibition. No experience required but for some events registrati­on is. The under-7 and under-9s have a monster All County blitz in Ballinakil­l next Saturday, June 24. Both these teams are training on Tuesdays at 6.30 p.m.

The under-13s played Kilcoole on Monday and are going well in the league, training is on Mondays at 6.30.

The U8-10 girls had a blitz in Bray last weekend and had a great time at a well-run event. Their next blitz is in two weeks’ time, training is on Wednesdays at 6.30 p.m.

The under-12 girls are doing well in the league and had a great win over St Nick’s recently, their next match is at home to Coolkenno on Tuesday, June 27, where a win will almost certainly see them win the league.

The under-14 girl’s next game is against Bray Emmets and training is Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Training for the under-16 girls continues every Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Best of luck to all sitting exams over the coming weeks.

The Kellogg’s Cúl Camps are returning to Newtown once again this year from July 24 to July 28 and online registrati­on is now open (kelloggscu­lcamps.gaa. ie) Please note we will not be accepting money or registrati­ons on the first morning of camp.

Saturday, July 1, is the date for our Presentati­on Day. All the Finals for our Mini World Cup will take place on this date and we will need a little bit of help. So if you are interested in football and can spare an hour or two every week leading up to finals day on July 1 to do maybe a bit of refereeing etc it would be greatly appreciate­d. It is open to girls and boys from five years upwards. Please note that all children will play on Finals day, and you never know the ever-popular ‘Tiny Tots’ game may make a comeback.

On the opening couple of days of the MWC over 150 goals were scored as over 100 boys and girls showed off their skills to the large crowds present. You can follow all the fixtures, results, teams etc on our Facebook page.

All our players are currently out and about with Sponsor Cards (where players can purchase club gear depending on how much money they collect). This is one of our main fundraiser­s so it would be great if we got loads of support, which to be fair we usually do. All Sponsored Cards are to be back with the committee on or before Thursday, June 22.

As part of our Presentati­on Day we will have loads of fun games, which will include ‘Bubble Football’ for all our teams from the season just finished. We will also be looking for the Penalty King, Accuracy King and the Top Bin King among other things on the day.

The WDSL Presentati­on Day will take place on Sunday, June 25, in the Grand Hotel in Wicklow town for all players from under-8s up to under-16s. The following are the times that presentati­ons will be made to our teams/age groups: under-8s – 10 a.m.; under-9s – 10.30 a.m.; under-10s – 11 a.m.; under-11s – 11.30 a.m.; under-13s – 2 p.m.; under-15s – 3.15 p.m.

All players/coaches must be at the venue at least 15 minutes before their time slot. Please let your respective coach know if you’re unable to attend. Players attending should wear their club kit.

We have only one player from the club celebratin­g his birthday in the coming week and he is Eoghan Fox from the under-11s. Happy birthday Eoghan from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

COMMUNITY FORUM

The Newtownmou­ntkennedy and district community forum will hold its AGM on Wednesday, June 28, at 7.30 in room 6 at the Community Centre. On the evening we will hear the chairperso­ns and the treasurers report and hold the committee elections. Affer the meeting we would like to extend an open invitation to all to join us for tea and coffee to celebrate the communitys achievment­s over the past year.
