The first mid-week races of the season were on Wednesday, June 21.

Conditions were good as twenty one Intermedia­tes swam for the Silver Shop cup; 1st Emma Waters, joint second Maya Gaynor and Charlie Brennan.

Ninety six seniors had a 900 metre swim out into the very cold water in the bay, for the Ral Brien memorial cup.

The O’Brien family were on the pier to present the prizes to; 1st Patrice Nolan, 2nd Damien Leonard and 3rd Gary Morton (snr)

One hundred and seventy swimmers, aged six to seventy odd, competed in Swimming Club races on Sunday Morning 25th June.

Twenty three juniors swam 140 metres for the Leonard cup, this was a very exciting finish, with Niamh Waters catching Steven Bell in the last few meters to take first place, with Steven in second place and Catlyn Keogh in third position.

The Intermedia­tes had a long swim of 440 metres for the Cleary cup.

This was another very exciting race to watch with Kirsty Dunne taking first place, just ahead of Sadbh Dolan in second place and Kyle Capilitan in third place.

The Youths had a nice swim of 850 metres around the harbour for the Cleary/O’Neill cup, 1st Lily Devitt, 2nd Robyn Brennan, 3rd Ava Frazer.

The seniors had a very tough swim down the bay for the Sean Kelly cup. Conditions were very choppy for the 1300 metre race; Brendan Conway caught Shay Jameson at the block and steamed home to take first place, just ahead of Shay in second place and Deirdre Fitzgerald in third place.

Mid week races are on Wednesday, June 28, at 6.45 p.m. Intermedia­teMark Dunne Memorial, 7 p.m. Youths – Garda cup and 7.15 p.m. the seniors race for the A.I.B cup.

Racing for Sunday, July 2, starts at 10.15a.m. - Junior Sprints, 10.30 a.m. - Junior Challenge, 11 a.m. - Intermedia­tes – Shannen May memorial cup, 11 a.m. Youths – Sophisticu­ts cup, and 12 noon – the seniors race for the Phil Healy cup.
