Young people improve their leadership skills

-

A GROUP of young people from Laragh completed the second stage of a three-module Youth Leadership course facilitated by East Wicklow Youth Service and Foróige recently.

The eight participants who have just finished Transition Year and fifth year in secondary school have been undertaking the course for the past year and completed their second module with a presentation to a panel comprising Wicklow TD John Brady, Edel McGrath from Foróige and Fiona Creedon from East Wicklow Youth Service.

The course facilitators were Stephanie Burke and Fiona Creedon from East Wicklow Youth Service.

The young people conducted detailed research on the need for a community gym in the Laragh area and shared their findings with the panel.

They prepared a detailed journal of work about the need for such a facility and how it would benefit their locality.

The panel was very impressed and commended the group for their work.

Now that the second module has been completed, the students will decide if they wish to pursue the third one which would be taking steps to put their findings into practice and moving forward towards achieving a community gym.

Ms Creedon congratulated the young people on their achievement and said that while the course does not require them to actually ensure that such a facility is achieved, they will certainly make good progress in the planning stages.

Thanks have been extended to Avon Motors who gave a generous donation to cover the cost of a celebration after the event for the group.
