HORSE SHOW

The show date of Saturday, July 22, is getting very close and plans have just finalised for a very exciting programme. Riders are requested to do a show check on kilmacanoguehorseshow.com where the programme will be posted very soon.

It’s almost time to start getting your ponies, horses and dogs at the ready, or if you’re a much appreciated supporter of the show, to mark the date in the calendar for a day of fun-filled activities where all the proceeds go to charity.

The committee have two Rings where they are running Working Hunter and Performance Hunter Classes. Both of these classes involve natural rustic fences. In one ring, they will have Working Hunter competitions for the rider who enjoys jumping – but only over small fences. Competitions in this Ring will start at 10 a.m. with fences kept to a maximum height of 60cms. While most people could jump this on their own, it’s much better fun doing this course of fences in partnership with a horse. Two later competitions in this ring will involve fences at 70cm and finally at 80cm.

In the second Ring, they are running Performance Hunter competitions at the usual high standard starting off with rustic natural fences of 80cm to test the ability and style of two of Ireland’s favourite horse breeds – the Connemara and the Irish Draught. This will be a delight for spectators and will be followed by competitions at the highest standard where fences will be 90cm and 1m.

PRINCIPAL RETIRES

We all know of the great service Geraldine Kelly has given Kilmacanogue National School both as a teacher and then Principal. Well Geraldine has reached retirement age and will step down as Principal during the school holidays in August.

To mark the occasion for us all, the School parents’ association would like to invite all past parents and pupils to a reception which will take place this week in Kilmacanogue National School on Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome so please put the date in your Diary to say your farewell to Geraldine.

GAA ACTION

Kilmacanogue suffered a narrow opening round Intermediate Championship defeat on Friday last in Arklow. Despite a brave late rally by the Kilmac men, they lost out on a 4-10 to two – 14 scoreline against Ballymanus. This championship will be a tough one with five regulars away travelling this summer but yet, this is a game Kilmac could have won.

It was a tight but lively first half which Kilmac trailed by the narrowest of margins at the break 2-03 to 1-05, Stephen Morgan with the goal. However, goals win games and two further Ballymanus goals left it a mountain to climb and Kilmac trailed 4-07 to 1-14 before an Aaron Creavin goal levelled matters but two late points without reply saw Ballymanus win it by two points.

However, some encouraging performances on the night and as this is the group stages, plenty games for Kilmac to get back into it. They face Rathnew this Friday (30th) in the second group game and support would be very welcome. In between these fixtures were two league games also which is very demanding on the players. Last week the team travelled to Carnew and came away with a great victory, this Tuesday (27th) they had a home game (result too late to appear).

ROBIN WINS AGAIN

Congratulations to local Calary Resident and Mountain biker supremo Robin Seymour from who successfully defended his World Masters Cross Country title in Vallnord, Andorra last week when he beat a class field of 45to 50-year-olds by one min 30 seconds. Robin has appeared in numerous Olympic Games representing Ireland and has truly been an outstanding athlete over his career so we would like to congratulate him.

At the same event Peter Buggle from Glencree won the Bronze medal in his age group so well done to Peter also.
