TOWN MOURNS SAD DEATHS
WICKLOW town is in mourning this week after the sad passing of three highly respected residents.
Pádraic Carney, a school principal, died after he was struck by a vehicle while he cycled to work in Dublin. Mark Gerety, a well known rugby player, was killed while travelling in a taxi involved in a crash in Dublin. Businesswoman Kathleen Poynton (Dooley) passed away after a brave battle against illness.
There was a huge turn-out for the funeral of popular business-woman Kathleen Poynton (Dooley) held in Our Lady of Peace Church in Bray on Monday.
Kathleen fought a brave battle with illness before she passed away peacefully on Friday morning at the home in Yachtsman’s Point, Wicklow town, she shared with her husband Eugene Dooley.
The husband and wife team ran the highly successful Dooley Poynton Auctioneers located in Wicklow town.
Kathleen was the driving force behind many initiatives which benefited Wicklow down through the years. She was also a member of the Wicklow and District Lions Club and was renowned for her many charitable endeavours.
The high esteem with which she was held county-wide was evident by the large turn-out for her funeral held in Bray. Soprano Celine Byrne sang during the service.
Afterwards, Kathleen was buried in Killoughter Cemetery in Ashford.
She is survived by her loving husband Eugene, her sisters Elaine, Jackie, Cherice, brothers Noel and Austin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
