Reports of fire and dumping investigated at housing site
WICKLOW County Council investigated a report of dumping at a building site in Rathnew but no waste was discovered.
A complaint over a fire at the site was also received by the Waste Enforcement Section.
Cllr Joe Behan wrote to the local authority after residents living near the development site at Ballybeg contacted him with a number of complaints.
The local authority received a report of dumping at the site in March and the complainant gave a statement to the Environmental Warden dealing with the case. In April a number of holes were dug at locations where it was believed waste was buried but no waste materials were found.
The Council’s Waste Management Section received a complaint of a fire at the site in November, 2016. Photos were also provided and as a result of the complaint, a warning letter was issued to the company.
While the council isn’t aware of any other fires on the site, the Waste Enforcement Section have reviewed the file on this matter and will carry out further investigations into the possibility of dumped materials on the site.
‘I’m glad the Council Chief Executive responded to the issues I raised. Now I would expect the council to continue to monitor the site and act immediately if any problems are encountered,’ said Cllr Behan.
Some nearby residents have also complained that they weren’t consulted beforehand about pile driving taking place on the site and are concerned about potential structural damage to their homes.
A complaint was also received over the removal of a boundary fence at one location which was never replaced, leading to open exposure to the site from private gardens.
