Summer fair in Brittas Bay

The action-packed-annual BBK summer fair will take place this year on Sunday. July 16.

The location for the fair will be in the field opposite the Brittas Bay Church and School. The gates open to the public at 1.30 p.m. and registrati­on for Gymkhana will commence at 11.30 a.m. Guests can look forward to enjoying a fun day out for all the family.

Events due to take place include a dog show, tug of war, live music and lots more. Admission for adults is €4 and children get in free.

All the proceeds raised will go toward the BBK parish fund. Under-six girls: first Saorla Hartley, second Olivia Guinan.

Under-eight boys: first Kian Copeland, second Bill Guinan. Under-eight girls: first Taelor Sherry, second Grace Vigors, third Niamh O’Neill.

Under-10 boys: first Andriy Kravchenko, second Jacob Fry, third Chris Huilin. Under-10 girls: first Aoibheann Hartley, second Alex Whelan, third Sadbh Hartley.

Under-12 boys: first Joss Huilin, second John Ahearne, third Elliot Gaynor. Under-12 girls: first Juno Cherry Roberts, second Sophie Power, third Ciara Whelan.

Under-14 boys: first Kyle Capiltian Joyce. Twenty two juniors were back in the water, to swim 150 metres for the Junior Challenge; first Elliot Gaynor, second John Ahern, third Sophie Power.

The intermedia­tes had a long swim of 480 metres for the Shannen-May memorial cup. Andriy Kravchenko swam a fantastic race to take first place, wit Rosin Vize in second and Mia McCann in third position.

The Youths had a long 900 metres out into the bay for the Sophisticu­ts cup; first Adam Ralph, second Dara Owens, third Nikki Moulders.

Ninety nine seniors swam 1100 metres for the Phil Healy cup. Jimmy Duffy took the lead after 700 metres and held on to it, to take first place, with Luke Finlayson in second and Tommy Moran in third place.

It’s a busy week ahead with club races on Wednesday, July 5, at 6.45 p.m. Intermedia­te – Across the Harbour, sponsored by the Kristensen family, and 7.15 p.m. the Across the Harbour for the seniors, sponsored by Rea Forkin Estates.

The second Open Sea Swim of the club’s calendar is on Friday, July 7, with the 20th anniversar­y of the Healy/ O’Kane ladies and gents open sea races. These races start and finish at the new pier ; Gents race 6.45 p.m. and ladies race 7.15 p.m.

Racing for Sunday, July 9, starts at 10.15 a.m. – Junior Sprints, 10.30 a.m. – Junior Challenge, 11 a.m. – Intermedia­tes – Town Council cup, 11 a.m. Youths – sealed handicap race, and midday – the seniors race for the Town Council cup.
