-

THE chosen ones charged with the job of finding the next Wicklow Senior football manager have been announced and their search will begin immediately with applications being sought by the Wicklow County Board.

The committee is made up of six people, all men, from across the county. Chairing the committee will be current Wicklow GAA treasurer Colm Finnegan of the St Patrick’s GAA Club. Also on the committee from the Wicklow town club will be Alan Smullen.

Up in the north of the county, Éire Óg’s Gerry Walsh has been selected while down on the Carlow border, Wicklow Senior selector under Johnny Magee, Coolkenno’s Paddy Dalton gets the nod from the Wicklow County Board.

Dunlavin’s Jimmy Whittle is the committee member from furthest out in the west, while current Wicklow and Baltinglass Senior footballer John McGrath will represent the players throughout the selection process.

The committee was finalised on Monday night at a Wicklow GAA management meeting.

Wicklow County Chairman Martin Coleman said that there has already been “quite a bit of interest” in the job and he expects that to increase further in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere in Wicklow GAA, Rathnew’s Intermediate team have been awarded the championship game that was scheduled to take place between themselves and Kilmacanogue last weekend.

The Kilmacanogue club decided not to travel, stating that the Rathnew team should have played their opening Senior championship fixture prior to them being allowed to play at a lower grade.

However, Wicklow GAA’s C.C.C. sat on Monday night and ruled that Kilmacanogue had failed to fulfill a fixture with the punishment being the awarding of the game to Rathnew.

Kilmacanogue have the right to appeal. More on page 58.
