Wicklow camogie summer camps get under way

-

THE Annual Wicklow Camogie Summer Camps got under way this week.

On Tuesday morning 55 eight to 12-year-old camogie players converged on Ballinakill from all corners of the county for three action-packed days of skill training, games and lots more.

On the coaching team we had Dublin Senior hurling midfielder Ben Quinn and Minor County player Niamh Owens amongst others.

The girls worked hard over the three days under the expert eyes of the five coaches and the camp was a great success.

On August 8/9/10 this Camp will be held in Hollywood GAA. Girls aged 8-12 (13 if finishing Primary School) are invited to attend.

Our new ‘Rising Starz’ Camp for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year girls will start on Tuesday, July 18 and also run for three days.

The cost for all camps is a very attractive €30 per person.

Application forms are available from camogie club secretaries around the county.

Bookings can be made by email to - developmentofficer.wicklow@camogie.ie or text to 0876998536.

The Wicklow Adult County squad take on Dublin in Round 2 of the Liberty Insurance Premier Junior Championship on Saturday, July 15 in Baltinglass starting at 2.30pm.

Dublin have two impressive wins behind them and this will be a difficult assignment for the Wicklow squad but considering that Westmeath chalked up a score of 6-28 in their Round 2 match v Waterford, they can reflect on their opening match and have a go! Every game is a learning experience calling for patience and persistence.

Wicklow’s Under-16s have their second blitz on Sunday 16th in Naomh Mearnog GAA Grounds in Portmarnock.

Going into this in second place, with exams out of the way and training going well, they should claim a semi-final spot in the knock out stages.

We wish both county squads all the best.

Locally the Under-14 Championship gets under way with preliminary rounds down for decision this week. With the excellent showing of Kiltegan, DonardGlen, Knockananna and Carnew at the recent National Feile na nGael as well as other promising sides, this Championship is sure to throw up some very entertaining and competitive contests.

The Under 8 and Under 10 Go Games Blitzes continue countywide on Saturday 15th and Under 12 Go Games League continues on Friday evenings.
