WARMER HOMES GRANT
Many that attended Kilmacanogue NS will know Susan Baker Walsh, whose children were pupils in the school for many years. Susan has been in touch to make all our senior citizens in the Kilmacanogue Group aware of the ‘Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme’, which the pensioners can avail of. There are a few requirements needed to qualify such as: You must own and live in your own home. It must have been built before 2006. You must be in receipt of a Fuel Allowance.
This Better Energy Warmer Homes initiative/grant is available through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAL) and if you would like from information, please contact Susan at 087 4112965 and she would be delighted to help. Likewise, perhaps readers of this page would help our elderly to avail of this fantastic scheme.

HORSE SHOW A WEEK AWAY
The annual Kilmacanogue Horse Show date is now just a week away and will take place on Saturday, July 22, and plans have been finalised for a very exciting programme. Riders are requested to do a show check on kilmacanoguehorseshow.com where the programme will be posted very soon. It’s almost time to start getting your ponies, horses and dogs at the ready, or if you’re a much appreciated supporter of the show, to mark the date in the calendar for a day of fun-filled activities where all the proceeds go to charity. So what’s new for this year? To accommodate the young and old of all riding ability at this year’s show, the committee have two rings where they are running Working Hunter and Performance Hunter Classes.
Both of these classes involve natural rustic fences. In one ring, they will have Working Hunter competitions for the rider who enjoys jumping, but only over small fences. Competitions in this ring will start at 10 a.m. with fences kept to a maximum height of 60cm. While most people could jump this on their own, it’s much better fun doing this course of fences in partnership with a horse we are informed. Two later competitions in this ring will involve fences at 70cm and finally at 80cm.
In the second ring, they are running Performance Hunter competitions at the usual high standard starting off with rustic natural fences of 80cm to test the ability and style of two of Ireland’s favourite horse breeds – the Connemara and the Irish Draught. This will be a delight for spectators and will be followed by competitions at the highest standard where fences will be 90cm and 1m.
The Kilmacanogue Horse Show will start at 10 a.m. and separate from the jumping, there is a full day of activities to delight all ages including pony rides, guess-the-weight of the lamb competitions, carriage driving and the best dog show in Ireland. Come to see a farrier at work and sample some of Ireland’s best raspberries grown locally.
GAA RECORD A GOOD WIN
Kilmacanogue travelled to Aughrim last Sunday and got their Intermediate Championship hopes back on track with a comprehensive 2-12 to 0-04 victory over Aughrim. Kilmac led 1-03 to 0-02 at the break thanks to Josh O’Callaghan’s early goal. They continued to pile on the pressure after the break and were rewarded with another early goal from Josh. This was a very good performance by the team after the disappointment of the last week’s ruling by the Wicklow GAA CCC meeting which the Green and Gold shall be appealing.
CHILDREN’S SOCCER CAMP
The annual Glencormac United summer Soccer Camp for Kids from ages 4-14 took place all last week with over 60 children participating in a week of fun. The camp was run by Gary Messitt this year assisted by his Irish team mates Aaron Tier, Brody Davies, Sam Carroll and Ryan Nolan assisted by Glen’s former junior players Amy Greene and Patrick O’Toole. Gary prised the attitude of the camp members who were very well behaved and a credit to both their Glens Coaches and parents alike. Ben Merrigan won Player of the Camp this year and he was presented with his trophy by last year’s winner Megan Bradshaw along with the club’s Godfathers, Tommy and Christy Devlin. Congratulations also to Paul Prendergast for putting the whole event together and to all those who helped out with registration and administration, not an easy job. Well done to all on a very enjoyable week.
