Arklow enjoying a great Seabreeze
The 2017 Arklow Seabreeze Festival reaches its climax this weekend, with events taking place from Friday, July 14, right through to Sunday, July 16.
This fun, free and family-centered event is a highlight in the town’s social calendar and offers something for young and old.
Music fans won’t be disappointed as the weekend will bring live street performances from Bare Bones, Wise Guys, Gravity, Glen Art, Small Town Crisis, The Kilkennys and Ray Dolan.
There will also be a chance for up and coming artists to have their music heard through the busking competition.
Classic events such as the burger eating contest, baby show and teddy bears picnic will feature along with newer attractions such as giant games in the park, the great ball race and the midway chilli madness.
If you just want to take in festival fever as a spectator then the WWF Wrestling show, First Responders demonstration and pig derby will certainly provide plenty of entertainment.
The usual carnival will run each night and there will be an array of on-street fun and games as well as a dazzling fireworks display to bring festivities to a close on Sunday evening.
Those who want to ensure a good view are encouraged to gather at the bridge or the Riverwalk.
A new favourite at the Seabreeze Festival is the Summer Sounds event which welcomed marching bands from all over the country and overseas to take part in this summer competition.
The town will come alive with the sounds of marching bands at this event hosted by the Inbhear Mor Performance Ensemble.
This year the Arklow band is delighted to welcome Liberty Drum Corps from Northampton in England, Mullingar Town Band, Celtic Crusaders, Clondalkin Youth Band And Vikings Drum Corps from Tallaght. The show, which is co-hosted by the Irish Marching Bands Association and Drum Corps Europe, will see over 200 musicians performing their 2017 productions. This show is the sixth out of 13 shows across five countries in the 2017 European Music Games.
Summer Sounds takes place at Arklow Celtic Football Club at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. Admission is €5 for adults and €3 for children.
After the show on Saturday night, bands move onto Main Street for ‘Drum Corps Rock the Town’ which will feature street performances from Inbhear Mór Performance Ensemble and Liberty Drum Corps. The street events kicks off at 7.15 p.m.
