CALL FOR CYCLISTS TO JOIN LEGENDS ON THE TOUR DE LEINSTER

DOWN Syndrome Ireland’s Wicklow branch is calling on cyclists to get on their bikes alongside Irish cycling legend Stephen Roche for a cycling tour around Leinster to raise funds for the charity.

The annual Tour de Leinster cycle takes place from Thursday, September 14 to Sunday, September 17, and will cover 600km over four days.

Irish Tour de France and Giro D’italia legend Stephen Roche will cycle shoulder to shoulder with participating cyclists for the four days.

The route starts at TV3 in Ballymount, Dublin, and takes in counties Wicklow, Wexford Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath and Louth.

Each participant will cover their own costs, so all funds raised go directly towards Down Syndrome Ireland.

‘The Tour de Leinster is a magnificent cycling challenge,’ said Stephen Roche. ‘It’s so well organised and you get amazing support from people with Down syndrome and their families along the way. I look forward to meeting many of the friends I made last year and to a very enjoyable four days of cycling.’

A registration fee of €190 is required from each cyclist to participate and each cyclist also covers their own hotel cost of €195 (includes three nights bed and breakfast with evening meals). Therefore, the total cost of participation is €385 per person. Each cyclist is required to raise a minimum of €500 in sponsorship for Down Syndrome Ireland.

Two consecutive days cycle options are also available for cyclists unable to commit to the full four day Tour de Leinster. For more information or to register, go to downsyndrome.ie.
