Following in the footsteps of their heroes the Beatles and Rage Against The Machine, local rock band Alistair are breaking up.

In an unexpected announcement, the popular Wicklow four-piece consisting of Joss McGettigan, John Sherlock, Cathal Ó Conchobhair and Derek Byrne have decided to call it a day after seven years together.

The news will come as a shock for many, particularly as Alistair had been touted as ‘ones to watch’. The music they wrote was highly emotive and each song had a distinct message to it - expertly conveyed by the soaring voice of front-man, Joss.

Their live shows were nothing short of incendiary and they made friends wherever they went... and boy they did go places.

In the end, Alistair will be best remembered for their trademark song, ‘Did you know’ - a song which captured the idiosyncrasies of the band so perfectly.

The song made its way into the Irish Charts and received significant airplay from both local and national broadcasters and seemed to suggest that Alistair were destined for bigger and better things.

Alas, time has proven otherwise and the four Wicklow lads have decided that the moment is now right for them to go their separate ways.
