RED KITE RELAY RACE

The Red Kite Relay Race takes place on Saturday, September 16, at 5 p.m. starting Avoca Community Hall. All proceedss in aid of Avoca Tidy Towns and Community Courthouse. her role as Golde in Carnew MS production last year of Fiddler on the Roof.

The role of Sr. Mary Robert will be played by Erin Hogan, Sr. Mary Lazarus will be played by Thérèse Canavan Bolger, while Marie Dunne will take on the role of Sr. Mary Patrick. Monsignor O’Hara will be played by John Young and Curtis by Bill Stafford while Brian O’Gorman will play Eddie, TJ, Joey and Ernie will be played by Jimmy Spellacy, David Cox and John Duignan. Sr. Mary Martin de Toures will be played by Mary Doran and Michelle and Tina will be played by Catherine Stafford and Clodagh Ni Leasaigh.

TINAHELY WALKING CLUB

On Sunday, August 27, the walk will be at Kilbrannis­h (Grade B, 12km, 3.5 hours) meeting in Bunclody at 10 a.m. On Sunday, September 3, the walk will be at Ballycumbe­r Loop (Grade B, 12km, three hours) meeting in Tinahely at 10.30 a.m. Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food and drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.

HERITAGE DAY

Carnew Heritage club are busy preparing for their annual working day on Sunday, September 10, on the usual lands on the Main Carnew/Gorey Road.

The Carnew Community Care ‘Pop up Shop’ located on the Main Street, Carnew beside the post office will hold an end of summer sale on Friday, August 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Saturday the 26th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a great selection of good quality ladies, gents, children’s, baby clothes, footwear and household items at very affordable prices.

Lines are €2 each and available from the Little Moon, Christy’s and any footballer or committee member. The draws will take place on Sunday, August 27, at 9.30 p.m. in the Little Moon. FIRST CARE GROUP

A course in First Aid is being organised on Tuesday, August 29, at 7.30 p.m. in Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew. Cost is €10 per person and all those interested please contact Patricia Byrne 087 9879920 to secure your place or for more informatio­n.

The committee are looking forward to the results of the Tidy Towns results which are due out in September, also keep Wexford beautiful competitio­n results in September also.

The committee are asking house holders to keep an eye out for blocked shores outside their homes and on the street and roadways as the heavy rain are leaving a lot of loose leaves around.

The committee are also gathering items for their stalls at the Gymkhana which has been kindly given to the Tidy Towns this year, we have lovely prizes for the wheel of fortune, also lovely home baking, flowers, vintage handbags, books, magazines bric-a-brac, teddy’s etc. Tickets for the annual draw with a first prize of €500 are available from committee members. A house of stories will be held for the first time in Shillelagh Courthouse on August 25 to coincide with Heritage Week. We invite all other. groups to tell a story, play music or sing a song. It will start at 7.30 p.m. Admission free. Light Refreshmen­ts. There will be a raffle on the night.
