There was great sadness in Wicklow town this week following the deaths of two popular local men, Jimmy Dunne and Jimmy Sinnott.

Condolences were passed onto Cllr Gail Dunne at Monday’s meeting of Wicklow County Council following the death on Sunday of his brother James ‘Jimmy’ Dunne from Crinion Park and late of High Street.

Councillors Pat Vance, Vincent Blake, Nicola Lawless, Christopher Fox, Tom Fortune and Cathoirleach, Cllr Edward Timmins, all expressed their sympathies toward the Dunne family on behalf of their respective parties and groupings.

Understandably, Cllr Dunne was not present at the meeting.

Cllr John Snell said: ‘Jimmy was a very popular person around Wicklow town. The Dunne family are long established in Wicklow and are a lovely family. My heart goes out to them at this rough time.’

Wicklow Rovers AFC also posted a tribute to ‘Jimmy’ on their Facebook page.

‘Everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the family and friends of James ‘Jimmy’ Dunne who sadly passed away.

‘The Dunne family have been associated with our club since its formation to the present day.’

St Patrick’s GAA club posted their own messages offering sympathy to the Dunne family.

Jimmy was the son of the late Maurice and Kathleen Dunne and the beloved husband of the late Patricia ‘Pat’ and the much loved father of Karen, Michelle and Rachel. His is also survived by his brothers Gail, Peter, Maurice, John and Pat and sister Maureen.

His burial took place yesterday, Tuesday, October 3, at St Patrick’s Church followed by interment in Rathnew Cemetery.

There was also widespread shock this week at the death of Jimmy Sinnott, the founder of Sinnott Autos in Wicklow town, and the father of past Wicklow Chamber of Commerce Presidents, John and Paul Sinnott.

He established Sinnott Autos in 1987 and went on to introduce John and Paul into the family business.

He was the husband of Margaret and the late Kitty, and is sadly missed by his wife, sister Susie Lawless, children Noel, Carolyn, Paul, John and Yvonne and step daughter Kim, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His funeral takes place at St Patrick’s Church, Wicklow town, on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by interment in Rathnew Cemetery.
