CONDITIONAL planning permission has been granted for a mixed use development in Rathnew, which would include 26 housing units.
The one- to three-storey village scheme would also comprise a convenience food store, a cafe and 134 parking spaces.
Cllr John Snell, Chairman of Wicklow County Council’s Strategic Policy Committee (SPC), fees the development will help create local jobs as well as providing further housing opportunities.
He said: ‘It’s important that we have more housing units but equally as welcome are the job opportunities the convenience store will bring to the area. Even if it is only one or two jobs, it is one or two more jobs than were there before. Hopefully, there will also be building job opportunities as well once construction starts.
‘There are other projects coming down the line and it is good to see tat things are beginning to move once again.’
The development will also deliver the second phase of the new Rathnew Inner Relief Road, which will consist of a two-lane 6m carriageway with 2m footpaths, cycletracks and 1.5m verge on both sides, the realignment of the R761, the upgrade of the R761 / 772 junction, a new roundabout, new access junction and future development access junction servicing lands at Clermont Campus. The retail convenience food store will comprise of retail sales floor area, warehouse, chiller and freezer rooms, loading bay and loading area, internal and external plant space, staff room, meeting room, office, lobby and a toilet area.
