DANCERS GET SET TO DAZZLE
SATURDAY night was the moment of truth as participants in the upcoming ‘Strictly for St Catherine’s’ found out exactly who they were going to be partnered with.
Thirty volunteers agreed to put on their dancing shoes and hit the dancefloor as part of November’s fundrasier for a new playground for St Catherine’s Special Needs Schools.
Fifteen of the volunteers are actually special needs assistants at the school, while the remainder of the dancers consist of family members and friends of some of the children attending St Catherine’s.
The Mountkennedy Inn was the setting for Saturday night’s announcement. As MC, Brendan Kennedy kept things ticking over as choreographers Rikki and Aisling revealed the pairings and the dances they will be dazzling the audience with.
Both Lynda Woolmington and Sean Dease and James Driver and his partner Denise Treacy will tackle a Bollywood dance while Nikki Langrell and Trevor O’Brien will go rock n’roll.
Colin Nolan and Keelin Brown will channel their inner Johnny and Baby as they take on some Dirty Dancing.
It’s a salsa for Colm Baumann and Zoe Elliott while Kieran Timmons and Laura Kavanagh will tackle a quickstep.
There will be a little Motown magic from Gemma Arnold and Paul Kavanagh, and Stephen Brady and Jane Dilly.
Caroline Lane and Declan Harris will be doing the tango while a hot-footed jive is on the cards for Niamh Synnott and John Cannon. Mary Heffernan and Mick Byrne will take on a cha cha and, last but not least, Aisling McDonald and Sean Lavelle will present a paso doble.
The big night takes place on Saturday, November 11, at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney. Tickets cost €25.
